ADA Accommodations

Last updated 5/1/25

Imaginarium provides ADA stickers to individuals who may have mobility, physical, vision, hearing, cognitive, psychological, or any other type of disabilities that may not be visible.  An ADA sticker identifies you to staff, volunteers, and security and indicates that you may need additional assistance.

Where to Go

ADA information can be picked up in the venue atrium. You will be asked to sign a request form and show photo ID. Then, you will be given an ADA sticker for you and one(1) aide, or a service dog. Your aide must have an entry ticket to the festival.  We don’t require proof of disability. We only require honesty.

Wheelchair Accessibility

ADA parking recommendations are detailed in our parking tour.

There is a ramp leading up to the venue main entrance if you are coming from street parking or the metro. Otherwise, there is an elevator in the parking garage that will take you up to the terrace. Here you will find ADA entrance/exit doors to the venue, if you are unable to use the stairs. These doors can only be accessed during event hours.

NOTE: Please make sure you have acquired your ADA sticker and ADA map before accessing the festival.

Sticker Policy
  • ADA stickers are valid for all days of the event.

  • Please DO NOT remove your sticker for the duration the event.

  • One companion sticker will be issued for each ADA patron; exceptions will be made for families with young children.

Lines

If you plan to line up for registration before doors open, please see a staff member and the form/sticker/map will be brought to you. Additionally, author queues are managed virtually from your phone so that standing/waiting for long periods of time is limited. You can find more info about that here in our event guide.

Things to Know
  • There are two elevators in the student center (venue) that will take you to each floor: 1, A, and B.

  • For those with mobility issues, the terrace must be accessed via the parking garage elevator/student center elevator.

  • A lounge area for the disabled, the elderly, expectant mothers, and parents with small children is located on the 1st floor of the student center.

Imaginarium and its staff members aim to make your experience as fun and memorable as possible, but there are a few limitations on what can be provided.

  • ADA accommodations cannot guarantee any seating, autographs, exclusives, or giveaways. While UDC (venue) meets or exceeds all ADA seating requirements, all event and program rooms have limited capacity as set by the fire marshal.

  • Even though your badge is needed to get into all events, it does not guarantee you access to any event if it has reached its capacity. Program rooms fill up quickly, and all seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. There are no reserved seats.

  • ADA seating may not be available if you wait until the last minute to get to the room. Please check the schedule and plan your day accordingly, keeping in mind the popularity of most events.

  • Be aware that registration lines are outside and may subject you to time in the sun.

  • Several author signings are queued. It is a good idea to make arrangements to join the queue as soon as possible, for the best place in the line. Virtual queues allow you to do other things, relax or eat, while you wait.

  • We are unable to refrigerate medicines or any other perishables.

  • The ADA does not require free admission for attendants or aides.

Effective Communication Requests

If you would like to request ASL interpretation for any talks, please contact us at info@imaginariumbookfestival.com. Requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Keep in mind, requests must be made  no later than two weeks  before the event to allow for sufficient processing time.
